GE/19 Boiling Projects
Twenty-one years after the first exhibition held in Taormina in December 1999 and the subsequent editions (the last, GE / 14 Other from the images, in 2014), the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation of Turin and the Oelle Foundation of Catania celebrate this long cycle of exhibitions and other events that significantly marked four decades of photographic research in Italy with a new exhibition with the emblematic title GE / 19 Boiling Projects. Twenty-five invited artists, among whom we find Luca Campigotto, Paola De Pietri, Alessandra Spranzi, Francesco Jodice, Antonio Biasiucci, Pino Musi, Carmelo Nicosia, Daniele De Lonti, Luca Andreoni, Tancredi Mangano and Antonio Fortugno, photographers who in 1999 were considered "Emerging" and which today appear as references for younger generations.
The year dedicated by the Foundation to art photography will kick off on 21 February between Aci Castello and Taormina: exhibitions, forums, workshops, meetings, with the involvement of some of the protagonists of the national and international scene, from undisputed master photographers to artists emerging considered among the most interesting of the last generations. The project represents the result of a fruitful team game of the OELLE Foundation with the Municipality of Taormina, the Academy of Fine Arts of Catania, and with various Sicilian business realities, in the belief that the system of contemporary culture and tourism are the drivers of local growth, leverage for development and employment.
On February 21 morning, the meeting at the University of Catania with Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, one of the most famous visionaries in the world of international contemporary art , inserted by ArtReview in the ranking of the 100 most influential personalities of global contemporary art.
On February 21, in the afternoon, another of the most important events will take place: the exhibition "GE / 19 Boiling Projects from Guarene to Etna", that is from Piedmont to Sicily, a journey into contemporary Italian photography between research and experimentation by Filippo Maggia, organized by the OELLE Foundation in collaboration with the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation of Turin. On 22 February morning, it will be the turn of the conference entitled: "From Piedmont to Sicily. Boiling Projects: A journey into contemporary Italian photography between research and experimentation", which will take place in Aci Castello (Catania) at room Pegaso 3 of the Four Points by Sheraton Catania Hotel & Conference Center; the hotel's fOn Art Gallery will instead host an extension of the exhibition "GE / 19 Boiling Projects om Guarene to Etna".
Since then, photography in Italy has followed many paths, including very different ones, expanding horizons and above all the sense that the image would like to give today: a container of ideas and projects that ferment, finding solutions that sometimes seem in line with the historical moment in which we live, other times proposing itself as escape routes or, again, as a mirror of existential conditions, as reflected in the works of younger authors such as Claudio Gobbi, Gianni Troilo, the duo formed by Tommaso Fiscaletti and Nic Grober, Gianni Ferrero Merlino, Francesco Cardarelli, Nicolò Degiorgis, Luca Pozzi, up to Renato Leotta, Marco Tagliafico, Paola Pasquaretta, Tiziano Mainieri, Elisa Crostella, Giuliano Severini and Francesco Di Giovanni.
Photographs, films, installations, performance documentation, stories in pictures.
A collection of apparently heterogeneous "work in progress" which, however, appears to be compact in terms of expressive ability and communication methods.
