Carmelo Nicosia, Catania 1960
Director of the School of Photography and Video at the Academy of Fine Arts of Catania. Specialized in Visual Anthropology, since 2000 he has been involved in several international, publishing and exhibition projects of a socio-anthropological nature, with a focus on the themes of identity, memory, collective phenomena, on the relationship with history. Since 2014 he has been active in the Word-Vision project with the collaboration of contemporary historians.
Since 2010 he has been on some international photographic tours (United States, Japan, Africa), as contemporary mappings of territories.
Carmelo Nicosia is considered one of the greatest exponents of the new Italian photography, a linkbetween the socio-anthropological tradition and research in the new media. His works are held in the most important Italian and foreign collections.
He is currently the artistic director of theOELLE foundation based in CT/MI.
