The exhibition

The exhibition Gabriele Basilico. Intermediate territories OFF was born as an extract from the large exhibition produced by the OELLE Foundation in collaboration with the Gabriele Basilico Archive and the Municipality of Catania hosted in the open space of the Castello Ursino Civic Museum. On the fourth floor of the Fon Art Gallery at the Four POints by Sheraton Catania, 8 photographs in 100x130 cm format by Gabriele Basilico (Milan, 1944-ivi 2013) recount his visions of the margins and suburbs of cities in constant transformation, offering viewers ideas for reflection on our society and on a near future to be re-imagined.
«The photographs on display reveal the soul of Basilico, known throughout the world. These are unpublished reflections on the concept of space and form, which represented the focus of the research of the great photographer who died prematurely in 2013. They are photographs that exude passion, which go beyond the professional order and which make us appreciate a private and romantic dimension of the artist . Basilico emanates visions, a sort of sensorial approach to the alchemy of images, and governs the construction of shots like Renaissance paintings with the harmonies of composition and light», says Carmelo Nicosia, director of the OELLE Mediterranean Ancient Foundation.

The photographer

Gabriele Basilico was one of the greatest interpreters of urban landscape photography, admired and followed even outside the national borders, winner of numerous awards including "The Golden Osella for contemporary architecture photography" at the Venice Biennale . His works are part of international public and private collections (including MAXXI, International Center of Photography New York, MoMA New York, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Stedelijk Museum, Center Georges Pompidou) and have been exhibited

in museums and galleries around the world. A great international artist for the first time in Catania with an unpublished exhibition. The selection of photographs taken by Gabriele Basilico during his career, from the late 1980s to the first decade of the 2000s.
