Di/Segni
Curated by Vittorio Piraneo

DISEGNI LOCANDINA

Di|Segni leads the visitor in the exploration of the concept of “sign” in its various forms and meanings, providing an engaging and multisensory experience. Through a rich display of works of art and photographs, the exhibition stimulates deep and meaningful reflections on the importance that each “trace” leaves in our perception of reality and human nature. In addition to being a tangible visual element, the sign reveals itself as a footprint, an indelible groove of the passage of time, emotions and experiences fundamental to the development of identity. The experience of oneself as a vital and creative subject. Di|Segni was born from the encounter between thought and the archive of the Oelle Foundation. From an idea by Vittorio Piraneo, it is an engaging and contemplative exhibition. It invites the public to reflect on the traces that shape our experience of the world, offering a stimulating vision of the power of signs in art and everyday life.

Lalla Lussu

 Sound artworks by Michele Spadaro

Sonic Landscape (2018) aims to recreate the soundscape of three shots taken by photographer Phil Stern during the Second World War. The idea behind it is to add further depth to the reality of the image through a meticulous description of its own sound realism. This is achieved by selecting and recording individual sound samples and then editing and mixing them into binaural audio. This particular type of process allows for a perception of audio immersion much greater than the common stereo format.

Locum materiae sanam / Acustemologia dell’Etna  (2021). Soundscapes, just like the figurative ones, do not exist exclusively as physical exteriors that surround human activity. They are perceived and interpreted by man who through them derives his place in the world. Acoustemology, a union of the terms “acoustics” and “epistemology”, is a theory used to simultaneously investigate the place of sound, and the sound of the place, placing sound as a tool of knowledge. Locum materiae sanam is a sound work that uses this approach to investigate the places, and the elements, of the passages of Etna. The work, lasting 3:00 minutes, is produced using 3D audio technology, with the aim of immersing the listener in a sound journey towards the climax of the volcanic eruption, in a narration between reality and metaphysics of the volcano.

Authors exposed:

Francesco Balsamo transforms the sheet into lyric, inspired by the texture of the paper that suggests the sign as an apparition that moves it towards a meaning and a narration. Just as in poetry there is nothing to start from, if not the signs of life translated into verses.

The works of Carmelo Bongiorno and Michael Christopher Brown lead the visitor through emotional landscapes, where the traces of time manifest themselves in unique forms, becoming themselves mediums of beauty and expressive interiority.

The work of Lalla Lussu offers a perspective on the power of signs in contemporary art, highlighting how color can transform and enrich our way of perceiving and interpreting the world around us. The color that takes shape in its expansion becoming a sign. It is a further level of reflection and contemplation on the theme of signs and traces, which strengthens its meaning.

The image of Massimo Siragusa documents the traces left by man. Traces of memory reread with a contemporary artistic vision in which the tragic entity of the events shines through. Phil Stern's photography returns moments that have left their mark on history. Traces of war that contrast with a timeless landscape, in which man is the protagonist. Indelible traces of our history, enriched by Michele Spadaro's sound installation that allows you to immerse yourself in the context of the immortalized places, giving life to the signs of humanity.
