OELLE MEDITERRANEO ANTICO PRIZE

The OELLE - ANCIENT MEDITERRANEAN Prize, born in 2022 as the Isola Sicilia Award, in collaboration with ARTISSIMA FAIR, aims to raise awareness in the art world towards the Mediterranean, whose history and culture is unparalleled in the West. A particularly active area that has been subject to the transit of continuously evolving and hybridizing cultures for millennia, of which Sicily is the first Western outpost to the South and represents an extraordinary field of experiential investigation for guest artists. The artist is invited to transit themes such as sustainability, inclusion, gender, ethnic, spiritual and economic identity to give shape to an art that can and must play a fundamental role in the protection and evolution of the values that the Mediterranean is the bearer of. An international jury, selected every year based on specific criteria, awards an artist at Artissima Fair whose works and visions coincide with the mission of the Foundation. The award is divided into different moments: an artist residency in Sicily with different activities that allow the artist to explore territories and interact with the population, acquiring information and tools useful for the realization of an artistic project and the production of works that, in the year following the designation, will be exhibited at the Fair in the space assigned to the OELLE Foundation. The program also includes, during the residency, studio visits by collectors and curators, workshops with students of the Sicilian Fine Arts academies.
