ART4KIDS
Il contemporaneo in viaggio
Fondazione OELLE is committed to creating projects that enhance the art, history and cultures of the Mediterranean, recognizing the importance of cultivating new, aware generations, capable of actively participating in cultural dialogue and experimenting with every form of artistic expression. The awareness of the importance of generational contamination that the Foundation has brought to life in this new project: aimed at fifth-year children of the primary school of the Comprehensive Institutes of the Municipality of Catania, ART4KIDS aims to involve them in a path of approach to the contemporary urban art of their territory, also directing attention towards the principle of the common good and the theme of sustainable public mobility. The project started on November 6, 2024 and will end in May 2025, with the involvement of approximately 500 children, thanks to the support of the Department of Public Education of the Municipality of Catania.
An AMTS electric bus takes classes on a discovery tour of their city through four "contemporary sites," selected by the OELLE Foundation based on their diversity and impact on the local area. These sites are located in diverse historical, urban, and architectural settings. This short journey presents contemporary art as a universal tool and language, the basis for a modern narrative of the region, starting with observation of the sites and their unique characteristics. Classes are guided by students from various departments of the Catania Academy of Fine Arts. The goal is also to provide teachers with new tools to promote and narrate the city's art and culture in an original, fun, and easily accessible way. This ensures a truly immersive experience that, for these young "explorers of the contemporary"—and perhaps even "artists of the future"—is a source of enjoyment, as well as a stimulus to curiosity and creativity. A "logbook," given to each student at the beginning of the trip, allows them to follow—like a map—the route and interact with contemporary places. At the end of the trip, at home, the logbooks will be filled out and brought to class to discuss and comment on them. This is a moment when the blank pages are creatively filled with drawings, projects, and dreams.
