THE BEGINNING

In 2021, due to the COVID health emergency, Catania was unable to celebrate its Patron Saint with the usual spectacularity, but the OELLE Mediterraneo Antico Foundation brings its extraordinary rituality to the exhibition with the project Adorando Agata On the road, which aims to contribute to the story of the uniqueness of this religious and popular festival, known throughout the world. «In a moment of great involuntary emptiness of possibilities and prospects, we felt the need – says Ornella Laneri, president of the OELLE Foundation – to give our contribution, through the language of art, to a city that finds itself in silent devotion for the first time. With the exhibition, the spaces of our Fon Art Gallery are made accessible for the entire month of February to everyone, be they travellers, devotees or laypeople».

The project Adorando Agata On the road opens with the video documentary conceived and written by Nicola Laneri, significantly entitled "Adorando Agata", which aims to investigate the role played by women in the spirituality of ancient societies and, at the same time, through the mixing of images of the feast of Saint Agatha and archaeological objects linked to the devotion of classical female figures. The documentary is, therefore, a poetic story that lays bare the devotion of the people of Catania who, between 3 and 5 February, stop to dress in white and follow the Catanese 'Woman' par excellence.
