Agata on the road 2024
The transformation
Scheduled from January 29th is the rich calendar of exhibitions, events and cultural initiatives dedicated to contemporary art, produced and shared with the city by Fondazione OELLE Mediterraneo Antico ETS, in collaboration with the municipality of Catania, Comitato delle feste agatine, Università degli Studi di Catania, Sistema Museale d'Ateneo Università di Catania, Accademia di Belle Arti di Catania.
The 2024 edition of Agata on the road includes five temporary exhibitions to tell the devotional heritage of the feast of Sant'Agata through the research and current languages of the visual arts, between rites and symbols. Various places in Catania are involved, from Palazzo dei Chierici to Museo dei Saperi e delle Mirabilia Siciliane, Isola and «Spazio O Spirito mediterraneo», up to the fOn Art Gallery Appendix in Aci Castello. The project fully describes the OELLE spirit: nomadic and, at the same time, strongly connected to the territory.
COLLECTIONS (Palazzo dei Chierici, Catania) with ancient and contemporary works of art inspired by or dedicated to the theme of Agatha from prestigious private collections;
ARCHIVE (Museo dei Saperi e delle Mirabilia Siciliane, Catania);
SPIN OFF ARCHIVE (Isola e Spazio O Spirito Mediterraneo, Catania), where an anthological selection of photographs by contemporary Italian and international artists from the Archivio Agatino of Fondazione OELLE is exhibited, dedicated to the different forms of religious materiality inherent in the popular festival of devotion to Saint Agatha. Among the works exhibited, two photographs by Ettore Sottsass and the great international photojournalist Michael Christopher Brown;
LA CALL (fON Art Gallery Appendix, Aci Castello) hosts the works, including painting, sculpture, photography, installations, sound art, string art, of 14 artists selected at the beginning of the year following a national call on the theme of the relationship between sacredness and urban fabric, emphasizing the relationship between Agata and the streets, Agata and the sounds, Agata and the population of a city without filters.
