Renato Alpegiani

Collector

Born in Cortebrugnatella (Piacenza) and residing in Turin, Renato Alpegiani has developed a deep passion for contemporary art since the 1990s. A self-described "collector by convention," he prefers to speak of a "collection of emotions": it is the sensations experienced when viewing a work that guide his acquisition, rather than its economic value. Over the past four decades, Alpegiani has assiduously attended fairs and galleries in Italy and abroad, selecting works he believes can mark significant turning points in the contemporary art scene. His collection includes prominent names such as Paola Angelini, Stefano Arienti, Vanessa Beecroft, Zaza Calzia, Lalla Lussu, Maria Lai and Carol Rama, Jimmie Durham, Gabriel Kuri, Jonathan Monk, Tomas Saraceno, Kiki Smith, Simon Starling, Danh Vo, Zoe Leonard, Monica Bonvicini, Rosanna Rossi, Ruben Montini, Jim Lambie, Paul McCarty, Alina Chaiderov, Tamas Kaszas, and Louis Fratino, and is also enriched by photographs, installations, and works by emerging artists.
Among his projects is the exhibition "All my Dreams – the Renato Alpegiani collection" (December 4, 2023 – January 28, 2024) hosted at the Oelle Mediterraneo Antico Foundation in Aci Castello (Catania). On this occasion, Alpegiani exhibited over 50 works, sharing with the public the reasons, feelings, and philosophy that inspire his collecting.
In parallel with the exhibition, he held a conversation with fashion designer Antonio Marras, also presenting the work "Compare Spare" (2021), made with recycled fabrics, which is included in the exhibition.
Alpegiani is also a lifelong advisor to the Ettore Fico Foundation in Turin and a member of the jury for the Award for Young Artists at the Artissima fair.
