Da Guarene all'Etna

Curated by Filippo Maggia

Fondazione Oelle inaugurated the year dedicated to photography with the exhibition GE/19 Boiling Projects from Guarene to Etna, or from Piedmont to Sicily, a journey through contemporary Italian photography between research and experimentation, curated by Filippo Maggia. The event was organized in collaboration with the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo of Turin.

Twenty-one years after the first exhibition held in Taormina in December 1999 and the subsequent editions held (the last, GE/14 Altro dalle immagini, in 2014), Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo of Turin and Fondazione Oelle of Catania celebrate this long cycle of exhibitions and other events that have significantly distinguished four decades of photographic research in Italy.

The exhibition, spread across the territory, winds between Taormina (former Church of Carmine and the Mazzullo Foundation) and Aci Castello (Catania), at the fOn Art Gallery of the Four Points by Sheraton, the art gallery of the Oelle-Ancient Mediterranean Foundation.

The exhibition project takes its origins from “Viaggio in Italia”, an exhibition and book from 1984 curated by Luigi Ghirri, Gianni Leone and Enzo Velati. On display, between Taormina and Aci Castello, are the works of twenty-five art photographers, including recognized masters and emerging national talents:

Luca Andreoni, Antonio Biasiucci, Luca Campigotto, Francesco Cardarelli, Elisa Crostella, Daniele De Lonti, Paola De Pietri, Nicolò Degiorgis, Francesco Di Giovanni, Gianni Ferrero Merlino, Tommaso Fiscaletti e Nic Grobler, Antonio Fortugno, Claudio Gobbi, Francesco Jodice, Renato Leotta, Tiziano Mainieri, Tancredi Mangano, Pino Musi, Carmelo Nicosia, Paola Pasquaretta, Luca Pozzi, Giuliano Severini, Alessandra Spranzi, Marco Tagliafico, Giovanni Troilo.
