Caroline Ricca Lee

Caroline Ricca Lee spent 45 intense days in Sicily, from March 25 to May 10, 2024, as a guest of the Fondazione Oelle Mediterraneo Antico, where she completed her artist residency, awarded to Turin at Artissima 2023 as the winner of the second edition of the ISOLA SICILIA 2023 Award . The Brazilian artist was drawn to the Sicilian landscape, with its artisans, materials, and Etna lava stone, which allowed her to deepen her research on archiving and memory from a decolonial and feminist perspective.

With her Sicilian residency, Caroline confirmed the value of the OELLE Ancient Mediterranean Prize at Artissima for Sicily. The mingling of cultures, the listening of local communities, and the involvement of local populations contribute to the evolution of thought and, consequently, of work.

During the residency , the artist met with students from the Academy of Fine Arts of Catania, Department of Sculpture, the Academy of Fine Arts of Palermo, Department of Sculpture, and the University of Catania, Department of Archaeology.
