Dala Nasser

Dala Nasser, winner of the 2022 ISOLA SICILIA Award presented by the Oelle Mediterraneo Antico Foundation at Artissima 2022, spent a ten-day artist residency in Sicily. From August 25 to September 5, 2023, she was a guest of the Oelle Foundation in Aci Castello, where, between excursions, she had the opportunity to enrich her nomadic spirit and work on some new works.
As an artist working through abstraction and alternative forms of image-making, Dala integrates sound, performance, and film into her practice, yet remains essentially a painter as she thinks through abstraction and the medium's most basic materials: fabric, pigments, loom rods, and mark-making. During her time in Sicily, Dala met with textile artisans to gain insights and inspiration for her new works. Viewing materials as witnesses, Nasser has developed a growing body of work that foregrounds unclaimed histories, ecologies of slow violence, colonial theft, and infrastructural failure in times and places where human language has been rendered insufficient or unattainable.
His residency in Sicily gave rise to an exhibition in the summer of 2025.
