Ezio Costanzo
History and Memory
Ezio Costanzo is a journalist, Professor, documentary filmmaker, and historian of the contemporary era. Accredited by the National Archives in Washington and other prestigious international archives, he has conducted extensive research on the Second World War, with particular reference to the Anglo-American landing in Sicily in 1943 (Operation Husky), and has also curated several historical photography exhibitions. With a degree in Political Science (history-politics), he has taught Radio and Television Language at the University of Palermo, Video Journalism in the Master's Degree in Journalism at the same university, and History of Photography and Photoreportage at the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania.
Among his best-known essays: The War in Sicily. 1943, a Photographic History (with an introductory essay by Lucio Villari); Sicily 1943 – A Brief History of the Allied Landing (with an introduction by Carlo D'Este); Mafia & Allies. American Secret Services and the Landing in Sicily (Rocco Chinnici Prize 2007, also published in the United States); The Moment and History. Photojournalism and Photographic Documentation, from the Origins to Magnum .
Ezio Costanzo is also the author of several documentary films, including: Moral Bombing: The Weapon of Pain ; Phil Stern: Sicily 1943, War and the Soul ; Sicily 1943, the Allied Landing ; Max Corvo: For Freedom: The OSS War in Italy (1943-1945).
He has collaborated with Rai Storia, appearing on programs such as " The Forbidden History of the Italian Wars " (History Channel), " Correva l'anno" (Rai Tre), " L'inizio della fine. La battaglia di Sicilia" (Rai Storia Dixit), and the documentary "Sicilia'43" by Folco Quilici. He writes for the culture section of La Repubblica (Palermo edition), the daily newspaper "La Sicilia ," and contributes to the history magazine BBC History . He was the scientific coordinator and historical consultant for the Historical Museum of the Landing in Sicily 1943 in Catania. He is the curator of the Phil Stern Pavilion in Catania.
